About Colchester

Colchester is a historic market town located in Essex and is recognised as a Britain's first city and the former capital of Roman Britain.

This picturesque town is situated on the River Colne and offers a wide variety of things to do for all the family. With a number of museums, theatres, galleries and its very own Zoo (which is a home to over 200 species), young and old will find something new and exciting to explore.

Colchester is also a great destination for shopping, housing a number of department stores, independent boutiques, a wide range of pop-up markets and year round festivals, including Octoberfest, Colchester's Christmas Market and smoke & fire festival (the UK’s largest BBQ festival) to name a few.

Colchester is conveniently located just over 50 miles (80 km) northeast of London and is connected to the capital by the A12 road and its railway station which is on the Great Eastern Main Line. Fancy a day by the sea? Frinton-on-Sea and other seaside towns are only 30 minutes away by either train or car.
